Kato Davits, lifting bridle and braces
Kato Marine makes dinghy davits and in these photos, I am am showing the lifting bridle, cross bar support and the cable diagonal wire bracing as well as the trucker tie down straps and rope tie downs for ocean sailing. We have run this set up for over 10 years and we have had this handle some serious ocean conditions of 6 foot seas and 35 knots all night long off the NJ coast. We have an AB 10-VL dinghy at 105 lbs plus a 4 HP Mercury at 50 lbs. When offshore we store the motor on the stern rail, but when in the bay or waterway or day sailing we leave the motor on the dinghy.
These davits also have the opposing down struts that help to stiffen the stern rail. The system still flexes when in waves, and we have found that the more outboard you place the davits the more solid they will be as the forces then pull on the forward part of the wrapped around stern pulpit. Closer inboard towards the gate, the davits will flex the stern rail more due to the opening at the gate.
