Deck gelcoat/paint was created by Flyrod
Buying my first sailboat, a 1990 IP 35. Have only owned center console fishing boats to this point so I am on a steep learning curve. Had the survey done yesterday.

The paint on the deck up front has been worn down. Same with the exterior varnish but I am clear about the fix on that thanks to this site (Hayden). Moisture readings on the chain plates are good.

Broker (former IP owner for 20 years) and surveyor both assure me the deck is purely aesthetic and say they would not do anything to it, and if I did then I would need to sand it all down, including the non-skid.

Is this true?

Any thoughts about using Seadek or something?

Otherwise the boat is in really great shape. Engine, electrical, etc. are in fabulous condition. New sails up front but the main is worn. I am told probably another year on it.

So I intend to close on it next week and just wanted to pose this question about the deck.

Thanks.

Bryce:
The decks is a polycore and no wood, all fiberglas. The surface cracks you see are just in the gelcoat and not a worry. Every Ip has some at the bends. no worries.
BUY IT, the IP 35 is a fantastic boat and she sails so well offshore.
I would not put anything on the deck, just keep it clean and use WOODY WAX to sea the diamond decks. It is great once a year.

Do not worry.
