Dan, thank you for the question...I added your poll question and answer options. Thank you for the poll.

For me, I prefer varnish. I have used Cetol for 10 years, and now varnish for 10 years, and I prefer the look of varnish. To me it is no more work.

Practical sailor had a good article on this within the last year or so. I don't recall the results other than the Bristol finish we have been using, did not do so great in their tests. They reviewed Cetol and other oils, varnishes, and 2 part varnish/acrylic. Ultimately it may just be personal taste, and how much you like to redo the finish. Some folks let the teak go gray - - like it's supposed to. (I like the high gloss style)

I baught Wind Dancer with a 'Honey Teak' finish. I assume that qualifies as a varnish. It is a two part hard finish that holds up really well, but still requires yearly maintenance. It can be repaired fairly easily if chafed of otherwise damaged. It would be very difficult to removve and replace at this point with anything else, so I'll definitely stick with it. I used Cetol on my previous boat for many years. Though easy to apply, it doesn't seem to have the durability of good varnish.

Thanks for the response guys. I found the article on cetol or varnish in the practical sailor mag that I borrowed from a friend.I will probably be using cetol from the result that they found....It is a great article if you are debating what to use.....B)
