This past Summer (2012) the crew mutinied, flat out refused to anchor out in the sweltering heat. Go figure.

We're now in the process of choosing a low speed (1800 rpm) AC genset that'll keep us all happy and comfortable. I look forward to being able to charge the batteries and have hot water for my shower too. We're considering a Northern Lights or Westerbeke 5Kw and I was curious what other IP owners had decided on.

Tom & Cheri,
I have a Phasor 6kw on my 420. It is installed just aft of the rear birth. I have access through a panel in the rear birth and the port cockpit storage locker. The 6kw does very well.

I put a Nexgen 5.5 in my 420-52 last season. I did not use the sound shield. I have access through stern berth (check oil), and port locker, service side... Very simple unit

Ricky,

When I measured the space under the cockpit I came up with 29" from the forward bulkhead to the union on the steering shaft making it too short for either the Westerbeke or the Northern lights. The Phasor has similar dimensions to both of these. Is it a squeeze or was the bulkhead bumped out or am I just being too "narrow minded"? Do you have a sound shield on it? Did you do the install?

If you don't have a sound shield how is the sound level with it in use?

Meyers,

How's the sound level on the NexGen without the shield? Did you do the installation?
