Some days I am dimmer than a flashlight with a dead battery. Recently, on a run from St. Anne, Martinique to Anse Mitan, Martinique we had the winds a stern for a wonderful genaker run. I put up the chute but the sail never fully pulled out. We sailed on and I resolved to look at this problem a little later. Which I did, while at anchor with very light wind. I untwisted the sail, lubed a stuck bearing and thought I would check out my work by unsheeting the genaker while anchored (=wind on nose). How stupid of me, even 5 knots will pull the sail out towards any moving object, for example a wind turbine. The result was predictable, good thing I had spares, but my pride surely suffered for my foolishness. My friends and family agree: it was a bonehead move. I know, I know..
