OK, so here's the situation....

We've just purchased an IP32, that's been in the water (salt) for who-knows-how-long. The bottom looks pretty good, actually, after being pressure washed. With the exception of quite a few places where the paint is blistered and loose from whatever it is that is underneath - I presume it is antifoulig that is blistered, and the layer beneath is a moisture barrier.

The boat will be hauled out in a few months, to be shipped, and I intend to do a proper bottom job. She will spend at least the next 2 years in freshwater.

What are your suggestions for a proper bottom job in these circumstances?

THANKS in advance for all responses.

Sam
These flaking off areas of bottom paint is common. What we do is buy a quart of epoxy 2000 barrier and we paint the area. Then eerily just bottom paint over all. We use Petit Trinidad and it is good for many years.

Criteria #1, of course, is that the whole thing has to make us go faster :) since we've already been informed that we won't be as fast as the C&C (32) and it would have been nice if we had bought the C&C so we could race, and, and, and......

So what I'm hearing here is clean up the flake areas, put new barrier on those spots, and then just a nice hard, slick bottom paint over that.. Yes?

Makes sense to me.

Thanks!!!

LOL

What about something for the prop, to keep the freshwater barnacles off?

Any ideas?
