After spending two months sailing with my Boat Buddy IP32 MORNING GRACE in the Bahamas, and watching his Marine Kinetix wind machine from
www.MarineBeam.com powering his boat.....I finally ordered one for Island Spirit TODAY! This is a 450 watt generator and here are the specs and this has been verified in the field by TWO Island Packet owners:
5 knots - <1 Amp
10 Knots - 7 Amps
15 Knots - 14 Amps
20 Knots - 19 Amps
25 Knots - 24 Amps
30 Knots - 27 Amps
So, I will be adding this wind machine in the near future. It weighs in at 17 lbs and it looks simple ti install. I also ordered a 9 foot pole and mounting hardware from emarineinc.com since MarineBeam does not have a pole kit worked out yet. I plan to mount the pole on the starboard aft corner then run the wiring into the sail locker on the IP35. There I will place the 50 amp breaker and then run the wiring across the stern behind the rudder post to the water heater area. Then I plan to mount the controller to the stern wall of the qtr berth. From the controller I will then simply run under the qtr berth to the batter box. I do not plan to add a remote on off switch and I do not plan to add a remote power monitoring read out. I am looking at this wind machine as my solar system, install it and forget about it.
So, after months of looking at this quiet productive machine kicking out the power on my buddy boat, I too had to get one and give it a try.
