Teak plugs

I am starting to refinish the exterior teak on our IP 31. This boat has been neglected for many years. Many of the teak plugs are missing. What is the best way to install and secure the new ones?

If the existing bung holes are in good shape then you can just glue new bungs in. Wait until the glue dries and then knock of about 2/3'ds of the exposed bung with a wood chisel. Then take some 60 grit sandpaper glued to a small strip of 1/4" ply etc. and knock the remaining bung down to just flush with the existing teak. Fininsh fairing the area with 120 grit paper the seal with the coating of your choice.

What type of Glue should one use?

I've had very good luck with Gorilla glue or the Elmers waterproof. It doesn't take much as you just want to lock the bung in place - it will be sealed when you recoat the teak.

Thank you! Does anyone use Epoxy?

I would not use epoxy but any of the waterproof wood glues as mentioned earlier. No need to put on a lot. I usually just brush on a light coat inside the hole and tap in the plug. The reason I would not use epoxy is that you may need to remove the plug some time in the future and you will likely damage the surrounding wood if the plug is epoxied down.
