Currently keeping the Spike (IP44-14) at Riviera Beach Marina, would like to have her closer to Melbourne, Fl. but have reasonable ocean access.

Ft. Pierce looks like ideal location, but would appreciate recommendations as to marina with good service, pool for grandchildren, etc. She will probably be in marina several months. Also anything closer to Melbourne but still reasonable time to ocean access?

Thank you in advance.

Mike - I just sailed through Ft Pierce last month on my way south and stayed at the Harbortown Marina for several days. I found the facilities very nice and clean and the staff was helpful. The only issue was that it is a bit remote and you will need transportation to get around the area.

Good Luck.

Michael:

If I were going to dock in Fort Pierce, FL, then I would dock at the FORT PIERCE CITY MARINA, south of the bridge and right in town. This marina was destroyed by a hurricane, and now has been rebuilt with stone breakwater islands and floating docks. This location is right in the hear of town with a nice city park next to the marina. There are great restaurants within an easy walk, 1-2-3-4 blocks and every Saturday, there is this wonderful city farmers market and craft show in the park next to the marina. Matter of fact, I am going there tomorrow. I do not know of any pools with any marinas in Fort Pierce. I would have to look into that.

The marinas north of the bridge are more for the work yards and places to store your boats. Harbortown and Cracker Boys and Taylor Creek Marina.

Here is a picture of the area

Don't know if you've found a spot yet or not, but just spent the month of January in Ft. Pierce. The city marina and Harbortown seem to be the 2 nicest marinas in town, but neither had availability when we were there. The city marina would be really awesome if you could get in there. There is a huge farmers market just outside of the city marina every Saturday that is really fun. We ended up staying at Ft. Pierce Inlet marina and enjoyed our stay. It's a small (1 dock) marina and nothing fancy, but we liked it fine. Gets a bit rolly when the wind is out of the north but not too bad. The dockmaster, Bob, is very helpful.
