Battery Storage was created by Marko Markovich
I just ordered my solar system for my Island Packet 37. 2 300W Mono Solarworld Panels, MPPT Tristar 60A Charge Controller, 2800 Watt Maxum Inverter/Charger and 6 Trojan T-105's. Can anyone post a picture of where they mounted their batteries and what they used to make a platform for them in the starboard storage area? I will be doing a write up on the whole install when i mount the panels on the KATO dinghy davits and the rest of the parts on the boat. Would be nice to get some other idea from you guys as well!

Marko:

We have IP 35 #165 1994, it is similar to the IP 37.
We used teh qtr berth footwell for our battery expansion and it has worked well. I would do this exact thing again. We built ours in 2002 and it has served us well all these years. We have 5 Group 31s Lifelines for the house and one Gp 31 for the starter. Our Started in behind this in the qtr berth locker as well. Here are my original build photos from 2002. I also added a few key photos below. I would not build the battery box into the sail locker, that space is needed for mother installs and storage.

Original photos of our build oiut in 2002!

Hmmm im not sure if i like that since there a lot of modifications to do and drilling a lot of extra holes. Ill see what i whip up in the next few days! My friend with an IP 35 has 4 batteries in the sail locker along with the charge controller and inverter mounted on the wall and it seems perfect in there. He also dropped two extra batteries in the quarter berth footwell.

Hayden, that looks exactly what I was thinking about doing on the IP37 we bought from Marko. He had just the 2 Trojan flooded onboard, which had a meltdown on our cruise down to VA from NY after purchasing the boat.

Is that your house bank and starter? If just the house, where do you have the starter battery? And where are the lines going that are going aft from the compartment in the holes drilled?

The 5 batteries are my house. I added a 6th battery in the locker behind the batteries. That's my starter. So I have 6 agm 31s total.
