Davit Mounted Solar Panel Choices was created by happysails
What are the products of choice for davit mounted solar panels? Is there a convenient web site that lists various brands' outputs verses size? Are monolithic cells with their higher efficiency preferred over the multiple cell structure?

I have one old panel now about 2 ft. by 4 ft. but wish to increase to three if there's room. The newer technology probably suggests replacing the existing with three new panels.

Any general help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Everyone seems to have settled on KYOCERA solar panels at the 135 watt size and then many are using the FlexCharge NC25A controller because it is so simple. As for mounting over the davits, this can be done with a KATOMARINE.com system where the panel mounts onto a raised arm that is bolted to teh davit stabilizer bar. You can see pictures of that in the photo albums from the Maine 2011 rendezvous I just uploaded, here is a copy...

Although we have Kato davits, we are in the process of installing two (2) Kyocera 135w panels on top of the Bimini on our IP38. The space between the two aft stays is enough to accommodate both panels side-by-side mounted longitudinally. We have two 1" bows being fabricated to run athwartship over the Bimini. The location makes the cockpit cooler, and doesn't block the rear view.

I as well have the Kyocera with a KATO davit system. I have two stainless steel VHF mounts for support into a crossbar. I like the supports it allows me to tilt the panel for maximum effect. It has withstood a CAT 2 with no problems.

Thanks for the response. I had thought of a bimini top mount between the aft stays, but was concerned about the shading effects from them. Apparently any shading that interrupts the series connected cells will cause limited electrical output. Have you experienced this?
