We are considering replacing sails on our IP380. I meet with a sailmaker who suggested we replace the original 110% genoa with a 130% genoa. He believes it will improve performance. I am concerned that the larger sail will be more difficult to tack. Has anyone replaced the standard 110% genoa with a larger sail? If so, has there been a noticable improvement in performance? Is the sail more difficult to tack?

For Shawnee, we replace the original 110%, with a 115% radial cut jenny. Slightly larger, no problems taking (smaller than a 130%), seems much better on the wind, with better sail shape. We did not change the sailing track at all. They took sheet angles into account when designing the sail. Great sails from Maine Yacht Sailing Partners, but owner has just recently retired and is closing the business.
