485 Extended Boom

I am having problems getting my extended boom to go back into the main boom once extended.  There seems to be a plastic sheath around it, is that supposed to come out as well or does it remain in the boom?

Plastic Sleeve remains in boom. I sprayed mine with Blaster and forced it out with the line to a winch. Cleaned up surface of shaft with a greeen scubby and now it works.
