I had our bow lines running thru the warping fairleads (I googled and think that's the right name). The starboard fairlead was ripped off during the hurricane. I discovered these are bolted thru the boat with only a washer and nut inside. Are they a weak spot?

Are these fairleads on the IPs not to be used during heavy weather?

Are they important?

Wouldn't it be better to have backing plates instead of a washer and nut?

Anyone know where I can buy the same model used on Kashmir? I emailed and left VMs with IPY and they don't return my calls or emails.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave:
The chocks or fairleads, I do not use, they tend to chafe the lines. I go directly to the cleat. Many IPs are designed with these and they are intended to guide the bow line crisscrossed across the bow, but many IP owners come to the lead then turn 90 and go back to the cleat. NOT GOOD, that will cut at the turn, so go direct.
