Not an answer to your question....
We love the staysail and boom on our 420 and wouldn't want to sail without it. That being said, deck space for the dingy offshore is limited.
We always kept ours on the davits, tightly secured above, below and crosswise with fenders on the rail. We could also put eyelets on the dingy bottom to hang it upside down if we were going offshore more than a few days at a time.
