Aluminum water tank was created by Skye
We are the new owers of an IP35. With an aluminum water tank, we understand that clorine will corrode the tank. How do you prevent this? On our old boat, we used a charcoal filter to remove minerals from well water, but because our tank was fiberglass we added a tiny amount of Clorox when we fill the tanks. What should we do to maintain and protect the tank? SKYE

IP35....now thats one of the best IPs made! :)
We own IP35-165 since 2001...love it

YES...filter out the chlorine before filling your water tank every time. Simply use a Camco Water Filter on your fill hose as you fill the tank. Chlorine in your aluminum tank will make aluminum chloride and these little white chrystals will clog your pumps and screens.

I have not had these crystals since using this filter. The filters cost about
$17.00, I use one per year from Walmart, see the camping section.

Skye,

Congrats on the good decision to get an IP. You will find a wealth of information on this topic. It is possible if you tie into the pickup of the tank going to the water pump, you can run chlorine through the hose lines to clean them out to eliminate bacteria and odor. Simple process once you are set up to do it.

Good luck with the boat and keep monitoring the IP message sites (IPYOA and IPmail) and you will have more projects you know what to do with. Or, learn more in a short period of time than you could in years of ownership. This is a wonderful group of caring sailors.
