Bilge Water Accumulation even out of the Water

Okay,

I have looked everywhere for the culprit that is letting in water that then accumulates in the bilge.

I think I have sealed everything associated with the mast and watched it in a driving rain storm. NADA.

I have searched with a mirror system under the water tank to see if any is coming down from any of the ports. Also, I don't think it is coming in from the anchor chain caps on the Bow Sprit down through the Chain Locker.

Boat is out of the water so it can't possibly be coming in through Stern Tube/Stuffing Box.

There is absolutely no indication in the interior where this water could be migrating from into the boat or how it drains to bilge.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Perplexed,

Hmm, I've not been on a 37, but here are a couple of ideas:

What kind of shape are your cockpit drains and hoses?
How about the lazarette lid seals?

Seems like issues with either could allow rainwater into the bilge.

Hope you find the culprit.

Daz,

Looks like you hit the nail on the head.

Turns out that the starboard-side scupper drain hose has a small crack in it. It is not in an easy place to see. The water test confirmed the leak though, and eventually I was able to locate it.

Will be one of my winter - spring projects.

Thanks for your insight,

I have had water coming in from the chain plate seal. Resealed and it stopped.

Hi Larry,
Interested to read about your problem and hope you've solved your leak.
I'm based in Bristol,England and my 320 has the same problem of bilge water ingressing even when ashore.
It's not rain water as far as I can tell, the volume is too great for the weather weve been having, indicating a hose or tank problem.
I've checked all the plumbing hose clips, including those from and to the calorifer and also checked the underside of the water tank with an endiscope , which revealed surface corrosion, indicating along term problem.
I'm now considering a hose replacement programme, but as this would be a major undertaking, wonder if any other owners have had and solved the problem.

David,

Sorry I didn't see your recent post on this thread. I saw your other post looking for a "fresh water diviner".

Looks like our problem was associated with deteriorated scupper hoses that I am in the process of replacing. I couldn't see where the leaks were, but was able to confirm that water was leaking from these hoses by pouring water into the cockpit scupper drains. Had to use an inspection mirror to actually see the leaks.

Removal wasn't fun. Replacement is not fun either.

Good luck
