Water in storage compartment under settee

This is more a question for Island Packet factory. I discovered water in the starboard side storage compartments under the settee that converts to a larger bed. There are three compartments. There is water in the aft two. I don't know where it is coming from but my guess will be chain plate openings. I would appreciate a confirmation of that thought. My question is can there be a drain hole in these compartments into the bilge? The base of the compartment looks a lot like the hull of the boat. The next question is that these compartments are "painted" with an elastic coating. It is coming off in sheets. How can I repair them. What product is it? Is it brushed on? What damage might I have suffered from water being in these compartments? Thanks for any thoughts.

We too have had this and it is not serious and no damage has been done. The paint is simple latex and you can dry it and repaint. We have repainted seversal times. As for drilling a drain hole, i would not do that as you could drill through the hull. I doubt that this would happen but why chance that. So, no worries. As to the leak location, it could be....
The mast seal, this can leak and run to there, had this....
Chain plates, maybe, but then it would be behind the hull liner and may not get to here...
A port window, leaking and running into here...yes, had this
A deck hatch does the same...had that
A leaking water hose or sea water hose to the head

So...taste the water to see if it is salt or fresh, then look for he source

Our IP-31 had the exact same problem....same starboard side, too. We found that the wiring harness for the bow lights runs along the hull/deck joint forward from the electrical panel and pokes up thru the deck, enters the pulpit railing at it's aft most starboard stanchion and the base had worked loose and seal was cracked. Water ran down the deck went under the stanchion base and trickled down thru the 1/4 inch aluminum conduit thru the deck and behind the inner sidewall. H2O worked it's way aft and soaked our settee seats from below and collected in the same storage compartments as you describe. Lay on your back on the starboard v-berth or use a mirror and flashlight to look up near the hull/deck joint to locate the small wire where it turns up to penetrate the deck. Fill it with 3M 5200 to see if it fixes your leak. Mike "Nomad"!

I see this is fairly a fairly old post but we had the same situation on our IP45 in both the starboard and port lockers. We re-embedded the chainplates and had five years of bone dry lockers.
