varnish for sole? was created by shawnee
Hi Folks,

Does anyone know what type (incl brand) of varnish IP used for the sole (floors)?

We are redoing ours now, after 16+yrs. (actually yard is doing the work). My thought was that residential or commercial 1 part polyurethane satin, for hardwood floors would be fine. (3 coats or so) Any recommendations most welcome.

Thanks,
Drew

Hi George - I heard from some others on the mail list, that IP used Z Spar satin polyurethane, now sold as Pettit Captains Z Spar Satin Varnish. = specifically from Harry on IP370 Two for the Roads "The nav table and sole are finished with Z-Spar V-975 Satin Sheen “. When I googled that, if came up as Pettit Captains varnish. So that is what we are using. I think that other interior polyurethane solvent varnish would be OK (like MinWax). I would stay away from the water based polyurethanes - until a few more years and some independent reviews saying they are as good as solvent based. So far, the reviews say solvent based are more durable. I think a 2 part "varnish" would be over kill for the interior.
