We pulled into Scituate harbor, MA for the first time July 2,2009 and found the harbor master and "Scituate Launch" to be very friendly. This harbor is very tight and has no room for anchoring so everyone takes a mooring. Fees were $35.00/night includes free launch. The town is great, and especially for laundry. There is a laundry within one block of the Harbormasters office and it is right next door to a Dunkin Donuts and a CVS! There is a great main street with restaurants and breakfast stops as well as pizza shops. There are 3 liquor stores on the main street as well. Looks like they sell a lot of that here.

The harbormaster does not allow you to run your dinghy in the harbor because it is too tight and with too much traffic in a small channel, so everyone uses the launch. The entrance is short and direct and very easy. This would be a good place to run into in bad weather. Next stop north is Boston and south is Plymouth MA.

Oh, one more item, there are two ice cream stores right that the harbormasters office as well as a movie theater as well. Great place.

We like to stop here, and have left the boat here for days at a time when staging for Maine. Sure beats the long trip into Plymouth! The Satuit Boat Club (satuitboatclub.net/) rents moorings with launch service, and the fee covers access to their facilities. Nice people, and they keep an eye on your boat if you leave town for a time.

When we had our IP (and a Prior Cat 27) Scitute has always been our harbor of choice north of the CC Canal when traveling to or from Newburyport to south of Cape Cod. It is an easy entry, and we have stayed at both the Scituate and Scatute YC's. Either club's launch will also take you to and pick you up at the town pier.

When 'doing' the canal, unlike Hayden, we skip Plymouth and take a mooring at the Port Independence Yacht Club in Onset on the western side near the "western" end of the canal; it is a good place to wait for the tide if traveling to/from Block Island Sound area. If you will only have a short wait--unlikely as you should be doing the canal at or just after slack water and it runs hard, you can also drop the hook North East of Wickets Island. If you dinghy to the town dock at low tide, make sure you stay in the middle and go slowly as the water on both shores is very thin.
