iP380 Diesel Standpipe

I have been getting problems with blockages at the bottom of the diesel fuel standpipe in my IP380. I have had the tank cleaned, but there are still small amounts of bug residue. The clearance between the bottom of the pipe and the tank bottom must be too small.  I removed the fitting at the top of the pipe, expecting the standpipe to be attached to it, but this is not the case. It seems to be attached to the welded fitting at the top of the tank.  Does anyone know how or if the standpipe can be removed (so I can shorten it by a small amount).?
 

You might consider unscrewing the fuel gauge and inserting a suction tube to the bottom of the tank to suck out whatever is at the bottom of the tank. This would allow you to pull from the bottom of the tank below the level of the fuel pickup. I'm in the process of doing this proactively to check for water at the bottom of the tank. You might also consider researching Fuel Right : it dissolves the biofilm off of tank walls and clarifies fuel, but that residue may still need to be removed from the tank.
