Cutlass bearing was created by willow
I am replacing the cutlass bearing on my 1992 IP 38: the "classic" 38. What is the exact size that I should order and who would be recommended for a top quality bearing with a value to match? The measurements appear to be 1 5/8" overall (ID of the stern tube) with a 5" length. The ID of the bearing itself appears to be 1 1/4" for the shaft. Of course, the old bearing that I removed is "damaged" so I'm just not absolutely certain of the measurements. Finally, is freezing the new bearing before insertion still the preferred method or is there a suggested better way? The old bearing lasted about 15 years with a LOT of usage so it's been a long time since I changed one out! Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Sailgirl

Willow,

We were lucky not to have to replace our cutlass bearing. That said your measurement of 1.25" shaft size is correct. Wish I could provide more assistance.

Best of luck with the replacement.

BIRD is the word. I have had great luck with DeepBlueYachtSupply.com for props, seals and bearings. It was $69 including shipping (since just bought one last month.
