I have a leak in the fuel tank on my 1990 IP 27. The good news is: I spoke to Island Packet and they can sell me a new fuel tank with exact size and dimensions. Unfortunately it looks like the new tank will not fit thru the opening of the port lazarette - which most likely means that the old tank will need to be cut to be removed. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
I had the tank drained and my current plan is to remove the plywood stringer holding the port side of the tank in place, then slide old tank into port lazarette, cut off a portion of old tank with a reciprocating saw so that it will fit thru hatch opening, then replace the tank with a new poly fuel tank that will fit. I know that I might have to build a new support for another tank but West Marine has a decent selection of replacement tanks.
