Broken deck bolt for engine mount was created by vwilreker
IP-37 number 59 with 3JH2E engine. The deck bolt for the engine bracket has broken from, I assume, over torqueing (picture attached). When I tried to take the bolt off, it snapped. Does anyone know what this bolt is attacked underneath the deck? Can it be tapped out using an extractor.

Victor: we laminate into the IGU a steel plate that is drilled and tapped for each engine mount. An extractor should do the trick and, if you are careful, the threads will be intact for the new bolt!

Thanks for the info. Another question: I need to move the engine about 3/4 to 1 inch to starboard. Do the plates under the decking cover that much area for drilling and tapping new holes.

Victor, sorry I missed this (thanks, Hayden!). I suspect you will be able to relocate the hole up to an inch away from the original. The steel plate is about 3" wide. I would suggest taking a 1/16th drill bit and making a pilot hole where you want to put the new mounting bolt. That will confirm you are hitting steel and can then drill and tap.

All the best,
Bill
