Oil filter was created by thor
For a gm30 Yanmar Fram PH 3593A is a replacement filter that is a quality item that replaces original . Available at auto part stores and Walmart along with rotella diesel oil .
I hope we can make a list of parts that can be crossed referenced Filters, belts and anything else that may be needed when not near a marine parts supplier, ( see expensive). for the consumable items aboard.

Thor:
I too looked into a FRAM oil filter for my Yanmar 3JH2e and found one. Then I was instructed by the Mack Boring Diesel Class instructor to NOT DO THIS. Yes, it will fit, yes it matches, but it is a very bad idea. At least with the oil filter. I did it once, then after speaking to Mack Boring, I switched back to Yanmar Oil filters. They said something about the o-ring and interior filtereing is not as good with a FRAM. Yanmar Oil filters coast about $10 and we use about 3-4 a year, so will stay with OEM filters.

On the Fan Belts, I use teh GATES GREEN STRIPE, these are easily available at auto stores.

Still a cross reference is handy to have when you need the parts. Could you let me know the gates belt numbers. My 100 balmar eats up belts, Thinking going the serpentine route.

Thanks in advance

Hayden, just for the sake of picking things up quickly, our local Advance Auto Parts store carries Purolator oil and fuel filters that match up with the Yanmar part numbers. I am not a Fram fan these days although I understand they were decent filters back in the day.

BTW, I don't believe that Mack Boring still sells retail? As I recall, I tried ordering parts from them for the Yanmar in our Islander and could not. I ended up buying everything from a place up in Michigan called Torreson Marine.

The previous owner of our IP had non-Yanmar belts which performed poorly. I ended up removing them and replacing them with Yanmar parts.
