Helm leak was created by tonymangia
I just purchased an 2008 IP370 and I think the helm has a leak.  There's an access panel in the roof of the aft cabin that is leaking water right below the helm.  There's a rubber coated plate, the rubber has cracked and the steel plate is rusted.  This leak basically makes birth unusable.  Does anyone have experience fixing this.  thanks

Simply use silicone caulk around all deck fittings at the helm. Start there. The water might be running down around the helm base. Seal that area first.

My 2005 370 was leaking there as well. I sealed up around the steering column base with silicone, but I have not had a chance to see if it still leaks. My bigger issue is that the steel plate is rusted. I will be sourcing a new one soon and thinking about using stainless instead of whatever that plate is made from. Almost seems like cast iron the way is has 'delaminated' in layers. Do anyone know the specific name of this plate? It sort of shaped like a cat face.
