1989 IP 35. portholes in good shape, but need new bug screens: 14 3/4" X 4 3/4". Anyone know where to get them. Lewmar makes some that are close, but not tight enough and fall out.

The PO of our boat had a complete and unused set of SS screens that he told us he got directly from IP. Not sure why he never installed them, that was one of the first things we did.

Gary:
If you still have the metal frames for the porthole screens then you can easily just replace the screen material. Take one screen to Home Depot or Lowes or Ace and they will have screen material plus the screen roller tool ( different sizes, different width roller) as well as the rubber spline material, round bead that is pressed into the slot that holds the screen in place.

To repair your screen do this:
1. Buy screen roller tool
2. Buy screen material, finer the better
3. Buy screen rubber, spline material, that matches your screen frame where the spline holds the screen
4. Remove old screen and spline, you may be able to re-use the spline material.
5. Stretch new screen over frame.
6. Press spline material into frame groove and stretch the screen.
7. Trim when finished.

Here is the spline tool for screens

You might also want to treat the screen with permethrin (Permanone is one brand) to make it more effective in keeping out small Culicoides biting midges, also called punkies, no-see-ums, flying teeth. These small insects can pass through ordinary window screening, and they are persistent and vicious biters. Permethrin is the insecticide used to treat bed nets, military uniforms and other clothing. Just follow the label directions on the aerosol or pump spray container.
