What is the material used underneath the hatch to the engine compartment in the cockpit of our island packets? Mine is old and is lost all flexibility and is allowing water to leak into the engine compartment. I have attached a couple of photos. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Here is the info from the IPY FACTORY:
copy below

If this owner is looking for the “gasket material” around the edge, some type of “weather stripping” should make an okay replacement. If they are after the sound insulation (lead lining) they may be able to get that in the size and thickness they need directly from Sound Down Corp at 954-761-9188.

I found a product at the local industrial heating and air-conditioning suppliers. It is called arma flex. It seems to work very well. I wash the boat and had a clogged drain and not allow water around the foam seal the engine compartment underneath the cockpit sole. So far I am very happy with it. Hopefully I can load a couple of photos below.

Emergpa1,
After very heavy rains water was leaking through my cockpit engine hatch (scuppers were clear but may have been overwhelmed) into the bottom of my engine compartment. I scrubbed out the old gasket material around the hatch opening and installed new ribbed rubber gasket material. However, I might have used too thin of a gasket as water was still getting through (although much less).

What thickness and what width was the gasket material you used? Thanks.

Your problem may be that the hatch, and the foam insulation, are riding too low and covering the scupper. I found this was the case on my IP 27, and placing a thin piece of wood in a position to lift the hatch around 1/2 inch. This solved it; no more water getting into the engine compartment.

New insulation will provide a longer term solution.

After much searching, it seems that the closest replacement foam is closed cell IAFC05N distributed by Soundown Corp. It is Ensolite, made by Armacell, but I could not determine exactly which type. $40 included shipping.

In my crude flame test, it self-extinguished just like an old sample of the existing foam. It seems to be stiffer (smaller cells) but I think it will do the jobs of sealing the rim of the hatch, and some noise suppression. They say to attach it using 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.

I plan to install it sometime in April and will let you know if there are any issues.
