Where do others mount or how do you attach your stern flags?

Hi Everyone,
I have what may be a bit of a dumb question. With your dinghy, Davits, solar panel and wind, lifesling, etc. All the toys needed on the stern, where do people attach a flag pole if you want to have a stern flag displayed. Or maybe you attach to a backstay? if so, how do you attach so you can remove it easily at night and it does not end up with Davy Jones? On my IP35, things are so tight, I just cant seem to find the best place to display my yacht ensign. B) Hopefully you guys are much smarter than I am and have figured this one out already. :)

Our staff is slid into a ss pipe which is attached to the starboard side of the pushpit where the lifelines end with hose clamps. A lanyard attached to the staff is clove hitched to the horizontal rail for safe keeping. I can deploy and retrieve from the jump seat or from the side deck. When the full enclosure is completely closed I can unzip at the stern cleat and finesse the staff through the skinny opening. Works well. PM me for a video that shows it if you would like.

That sounds like a great idea.. Thank you for sharing. Sorry for the slow reply as I was away from my PC for a few days.
I purchased a teak flag pole and it sounds as if the same design would work great.

I'm also interested in how others attach the flag to the backstay. I have seen some pictures of IP with the flag flying pretty high on one of the split backstays but i'm not sure how they attach and remove the flag easily. The clips I find on the market don't look like they would fit on the backstay.

I stretched as long as I could and put it on the backstay with the normal flag halyard clips. I felt it worked well and looked good.

We have a flag pole bracket that mounts on a horizontal stainless tube that keeps the davits spread. The stainless tube sits well above the dingy. The flagpole is about 3 feet long and extends aft so the flag hangs down nicely aft of the dinghy. It's a clean setup. Just watch for nearby pilings when backing into a slip.

That sounds perfect. Do you have a picture of that configuration?

Here are some pics of our flag mount. Noe the bracket is somewhat bent as the result of a piling that refused to move out of the way as I was backing up. Stupid piling. ;)
