IP 31 Davits...what are these was created by Rick Murray
Hi...I'm a new-ish owner of a 1984 IP31 here in Scituate MA. The davits that came with it are pictured in one of the attached pictures. Can anyone tell me what type of davits these are, and where perhaps I can dowload a manual that shows me how to rig them up?

ALSO, there are these two plates on the stern rail--see other attachment--. One set is complete (as pictured on s'board side of stern rail) and the other set (on port side of stern) is missing the circular plate. Any idea where I can purchase one of these (answer may be related to the above).

Finally, are these postings to the IPYOA completely different from any posting to IP Home Port--or are these electronically cross listed? If they are, I apologize for the double posting because I'm going to post this question there as well (if I can).

Thanks so much...

These look like the St. Croix davits, they are not the Kato davits.

IPYOA and homeport are different sites.

Hello rick,
Welcome. My mast leaks at the passage through the deck too. I replaced the boot but I am waiting for another heavy rain to see how well it works. When I took the mast boot off I saw that the plastic ring that goes at the deck for the mast to pass thru was broken in several places but still in place. I have not run across that problem before and have not yet researched it. I'm not sure how important that piece is. I guess if it is there it is probably important ha ha! I think that it is called a compression ring.
Was the base of the mast where it rests on the keel okay? Not any corrosion? If much corrosion that might be a early on the to do list critical fix?
Do you know anything about the ring Hayden?
Keith

Yes, I do know about the mast wedge. It is a black rubber piece that is L shape which presses into the gap between the deck and the Isomat Mast. It is none structural, it just cushions the mast from the deck collar. These can be replaced, but it usually is not needed unless you are pulling the mast. This mast wedge is clamped tight with a hose clamp pressing it against the mast. Then you caulk around the joint. After that, you install the mast boot. I prefer to use mast rigging tape and wrap it with that. After that, I caulk down into the gaps of the slots in the mast. This will not leak.

Yes, I'm aware of those types of mast wedges from my old Bristol 27.7, which used the rubber flange things too. On my IP31 now, it is really a hodge podge mess. I'm going to 'start over' when it finally gets consistently warm and dry around here (Massachusetts). It looks like there may have been some damage to the collar part that is part of the fiberglass deck.

Cheers,

Rick
