The problem with a quick install pilot, which might be a wheel pilot, is that they are for smaller boats. This one:

Raymarine Wheel Pilot is for 16,000 lbs or less, so this would work in calm seas.
I too have the B&G ram pilot on our IP35-165 1994 installed in 2002, and eventually will need to upgrade or replace this pilot. Bobby has replaced his B&G with a Raymarine ram and it dropped right in place of the B&G, so that may be the best way to go.
Another resource is a spare B&G ram, which I would buy from:

So, maybe it is best to carry a spar ram, that could be dropped into place when the old one dies.
