Contented Turtle will finish her complete 'above the deck' refit this spring. Her '5 year plan' now includes a Pacific cruise so I'm very interested to hear from other owners Windvane experiences and which products worked well and held up on our type boat. She is flat transom IP38 and I'm leaning towards an offset Servo Pendulum system. Any input appreciated!

Hayden thought I could help here. We had a Hydrovane on a 380. The flat stern will make it easier to install and a 38 is narrower than our boat so that will be better. Our width meant we had to not use the whole sails cuz it sucked us a bit too much to weather but once we took in about 10% we held a course just fine. You might find that too but not as much since IPs are beamy. We liked a hydrovane cuz it was a spare rudder button I'm sure others will work fine. We liked the way we locked the wheel and controlled the vane with a thin but strong line.....never broke. The cane held in confused seas in the Atlantic when other boats had to hand steer cuz their auto helms wouldn't hold.
