The situation: Our IP27 does not have factory AC, to be honest, with the compact size of this boat I'm not sure where you would install such a unit anyhow. This past weekend was warm (near 90*), humid and sunny. We have a Cruiseair carry-on unit that worked well all day keeping the interior in the mid-70's and removing humidity. The issues came about 4am when a severe storm rolled through and we got heavy rain. Oddly (at least to me) the Cruiseair began to leak, not around the hatch collar but through the unit itself with water coming out of the air vents into the V-berth. It appears that this marine air conditioner is not suitable to be used in the rain?? Very odd. So, at 4am, in the rain, I removed the unit and we closed the hatch.
Question: Obviously we are not the first people in the world to be on a boat when it's warm, humid and raining. The ports and hatches have no capability of being opened in the rain without rain coming in. We had the hatch in the head and V-berth cracked to the "vent" position and the main hatch under the dodger open with the hatchboards in to keep the rain out. The rain on the dodger was loud but for the most part the rain stayed out of the cabin. I did install a 12v Cafano (sp?) fan which is a total disappointment for the price. The blades are poorly balanced so it vibrates loudly even at low speed. I plan on working on that issue. I am open to other suggestions on venting the cabin in situations like this, what do others do???
