I am thinking of replacing my primary anchor with a Rocna. What has the experience been in the IP fleet? Any fir issues on our bow rollers?

We really think that the ROCNA is the best anchor available today. We have used a BRUCE, CQR and DANFORTH and now for the past 3 years a ROCNA 55 lb anchor on our 20,000 lbs IP 35. It has held us in 54 knots for over two hours. We use 5/16" chain. I would buy this anchor again in a second. No questions for me. It fits fin ou our rollers and I moved the 44 lb Bruce to port. I would think you would get the 75 lb ROCNA for your boat. Is that the one you are thinking about?

yes Hayden, that's the one we had in mind. It's the Rocna 33 which is 73 pounds. (33 kilos)

Hayden,

I looked up the sizing chart on the Rocna web site. Our dry displacement is 34,500 lbs. Our length is 14.2 meters. The size recommended is a Rocna 40 which is 88 pounds.

Leonard:

88 lbs is even better than the 73 lb. I see no problem. You will never wish the anchor was smaller when the storms come up.

I concur with everything Hayden said. It will help you sleep at night. Get a Rocna and go with the bigger one.

I could not fit the Rocna on my IP 31 side rollers. But I just bought the new Rocna without the roller bar, called The Vulcan. It is supposed to have the same features as the original. Looking forward to using it soon.

Hi Leonard

Let me know if you have any fit issues with the Rocna. We're thinking of the same anchor for our 445 which should have the same rollers as your 465.

Thanks

Back in March we bought a Rocna 33 for our IP420. We spent six weeks anchoring out on the ICW and found the Rocna to be a valuable investment. Between strong currents, shifting tides and high wind it held consistently. While in Georgia we had 8' tides and 35 knot winds from TS Ana. No problem.

The only fit issue has been making sure the anchor is facing correctly as it comes up to the roller. We have a 45 lb Bruce on the port side and the Rocna to starboard and that works fine. When I first got the Rocna I was concerned about the size but once it was up there it looks like it belongs.

Cleaning off the sand/shell/mud concrete from the anchor is the biggest issue for us. We have a deck wash system and finally dumped the crappy blue coiled plastic hose that came with it. Now using regular garden hose and a quality nozzle. Mondo water pressure like never before!

Hi Leonard
Just wondering if you have any feedback on the Rocna yet? Did you have any fit issues with the bow rollers? Did you leave a secondary anchor on as well?

If you could post a photo or two I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers

Blair,

Absolutely no problems fitting the Rocna anchor. The only issue is that there is no real room for a second anchor to be placed on the 2nd bow roller. The Rocna is very wide.

See the anchor in place here: svterratima.blogspot.ca/2015/05/new-rocna-anchor.html

For those looking at Rocna.
I could not fit the original on my IP 31 because of the side bow rollers didn't allow for the roll bar. I got the new Rocna Vulcan and it fits perfectly....and I'm very pleased with how quickly it sets, holds and retrieves. I'm glad for their redesign.

Hi Leonard

I noticed that you joined BCA a while back. I'm Vice-Commodore of the Vancouver Chapter - light on sailing experience but I figured it was a great way to get involved and meet like-minded people.

I haven't met you at the monthly meetings. Not sure if you've been able to attend any but I wanted to invite you to the AGM and Christmas party on Wed Dec 9. The meeting starts at 7:00 with the AGM which should take about an hour. We follow that with a pot-luck dinner/appetizers. As your last name falls into the category L-Z, if you do come please bring a dessert item.

I hope to see you there!

Cheers
