Spacreek automa alternator control was created by cat30
Got the Spacreek alternator control on my boat. Reading online it is used to maintain higher chargring rate from alternator. It appears to be outdated technology. Does anyone still use it? Could fry the battery or mess up alternator.

Maybe time for the alternator upgrade we were talking about a few months ago?

Not really having a charging issue- just wanted to know about disabling the SPACREEK thing or how it works to prevent damage- i was able to locate a manual- so i have a better idea how it works.
Other things on my to-do (to buy) list before new alternator or battery monitor.
thanks

Good deal. Is that thing a smart external regulator like tha balmar? If you decide to do the serpentine belt high output alternator with the balmar upgrade in the future check my post on the topic. It has a very helpful link in it to a much better post on same topic.

Its more like a not smart/manual regulator- you use a rheostat to force a higher charging rate, maybe lower the charging rate as the battery reaches full charge- i think it turns off when it is fully charged- i'm not sure of the details yet.
Not really thinking of going to a higher output alternator at this time- just bought the boat this spring and there is a long list of upgrades to be financed.
thanks

I understand that. If you have trouble getting your belts adjusted and cannot make the dust. In the serpentine is a good option. I think you can do the serpentine belt and the alternator and the regulator for fairly affordable. I could not eliminate the dust. I am not sure why. Tried some new belts new and different adjustments but had no luck. I did not try all types of belts and I understand the alligator teeth belts work better. I wanted to upgrade the alternator anyway as mine was original and thought it was a good time to do that and make the original a spare. I am glad I did it. Rewired the engine at the same time and rewired my Control Panel. I learned a lot in the process and that was maybe the best benefit of all.
