I need to replace the dorados on my IP 29. I don't need anything fancy - plastic will do. I believe they are 4" in diameter but I'm not absolutely positive.

Does anyone have any brand recommendations? I'm having trouble finding replacements.

Thanks

The prices through Island Packet direct on the website are pretty good. We are switching to the chromed ones and still trying to find a better deal than IP, but have not yet.

I don't know the condition of you dorades, or what exactly you are trying to accomplish.... But......... Here are a couple of thoughts. First, when I had my IP 350 the Nicro plastic dorades were getting pretty tired looking and I called IP about the fancy new ss ones and was told not to do that because the later boats with the ss dorades had more structure in the dorade box and SS tubing around them to protect them. If I caught a line on one I could cause a lot of damage to the boat. I then priced the new plastic ones - - yipes $$$ - Marinco/Guest/AFI/Nicro/BEP N10964 4 INCH VENT - $88 each on ebay just now.

So I painted them. Really very easy, use Krylon ( Fusion for Plastic) from Lowes/Home Depot/Sears. They market this stuff for lawn furniture, I am sure there are other brands also. Two cans, white and red. Remove the dorades, wash in soap and water and bleach to kill the mold. Carefully tape the white with blue tape, spray the inside red, Then reverse and spray the outside and mouth white. Doesn't take long, two $5.00 cans of paint and some blue tape + a little newspaper. They look like new and it lasts about three years before they get moldy and yucky again. BTW new ones get yucky in three years also.

I'm probably late coming in on this but I purchased the plastic ones from Defender.com. Seemed very reasonable.

Greetings and Happy New Year.

Have a look at the photo. The plastic base on which the Dorade is mounted. Note the cracking at the lower screw attachment points.

Any thoughts on who supplies replacement parts? This comes from Windragon our 1995 IP 37.

All the best to everyone in 2017. May we all share safe travels on the land, sea, and air.

I have no idea where you get new lexan parts - This happened to my IP350 also. Result of a Genoa sheet wrapping on the dorade - -ripped it off. I replaced it with black starboard. It is easy to cut, bend, and drill. 1/4 inch works well. You can use the old one as a pattern. Cut the hole for the dorade fitting with a hole saw. While you are at it make several. BTW starboard works with common wood working tools. Make the bend by heating with a heat gun, practice a little on a scrap strip, but basically it is easy and very forgiving. The starboard is opaque. but almost no light comes thru the existing lexan ones anyway. You could use lexan but then they would break just like these do.
