Hull, keel, ballast was created by powersht2k
Noticed something new today on my IP38... The fiberglass pan in the bilge that covers the ballast in the keel sounds hollow when you tap on in, like there's now a void between the cement/iron ballast and the glass cap over the ballast (not to mention that I found a hull grid tab delaminated - know your boat!!!) investigating further, I pressed on some portions, and they gave quite easily - meanining I likely would be unable to crawl around in the bilge without breaking the pan - though my girth would probably preclude this before having to concern myself with breaking anything...

Has anyone else noticed this on their boats? I'm not sure I have anything to be concerned with, as our beloved boat is nigh 30 years young - some settling is to be expected. But I would feel a bit better if someone else in the IP community has experienced the same symptom. I had never noticed this before, and it was not noted in the pre-purchase survey. Most interested in knowing if this might indicate serious issues, or if it's nothing of which I should be concerned.

Obviously next step is to contact the factory - but I thought I'd ask the forum first.

Thanks in advance!!!
