Standing water in base of mast was created by perry1
New member and new owner (3-months) of a 1996 IP37 named Puffin - While working on installing a new coax cable in my mast I discovered approximately 3-inches of water standing in the bottom of my mast. All of the coax cables and wiring for my mast lights are underwater. I used an inspection camera to inspect this area through the small opening for wiring in the starboard side of the mast beneath the floor. Working in this area is nearly impossible with very limited access - I can barely get one hand through the opening in the floor where the mast passes through to the keel. There is a lot of "crud" and slime growth in the water like the water has been there for a long time. I poked around in the water and crud trying to find a drain hole but it is impossible to see much of anything and the wiring and cables make it difficult as well. The flange that my mast rests on is bolted to the keel with four bolts. There are six other holes that are approximately 1/2" diameter in this flange that look like more bolt holes but there are no threads in the holes and there appears to be an opening or space at the bottom of the holes that might be part of a drainage system (guessing). There is seemingly no way to vacuum out the water and crud from the inside of my mast so I tried using a wet vac to remove debris from two of the holes that I could access with my vacuum but nothing came out. I also tried to stick some copper wire into one of the holes and into the void that I mentioned but it seemed to be a dead end Can anyone give me some information about this? Maybe I am worried about nothing but it seems bad to let my wiring soak in water. I live in Florida and it has been fairly dry here for the past several weeks (very little rain).
I have spent considerable time looking for information about this to no avail so I would appreciate any information about the subject.

Also living in Fla. sailing a 31 # 112, Windependent, I have had the same issue. Mud wasps will find a way in the mast and build their nests. Can you stop them, out side of sailing every day ( a brilliant idea ) I don't think so. There should be a a weep hole at the bottom of the mast about an inch from the bottom. I have used a hose , water jetted into the weep hole, and a piece of wire to remove the mud and junk once or twice a year flushing it out.
This has worked for me, Would like to hear if any one has a better way.

Correction - there are 8 other holes instead of 6 as previously stated. I tried again this morning to find any weep holes in the mast as Thor suggested to no avail. I also tried again to stick a piece of copper wire into anything resembling an opening in what I am calling a flange or base plate, again without success.
