Team IPYOA

I am in the middle of initiating new jobs with Mack Sails, as I have now learned that they do much more than just sails.. This is not a plug, this is a first hand reaction and observation to working with Colin. I am doing some upgrades on Island Spirit when I get back to Stuart Florida and launch Nov 1. I thought I would give Colin Mack my list of items I would be shopping for at the Annapolis Boat Show and with online deals as well. What I have found is that Colin was able to meet or beat any price I found online or at Defender or even via my Port Supply account discount I was so impressed.

So, I committed to Mack Sails and I ordered all my items from them. Imagine, I did this 3 weeks before the Annapolis Show.

Here is my list
B&G Zeus2 9" Screen
B&G Zeus2 4G Radar
NavPod 1080
Spectra Watermaker Ventura 200t
New 135% Jib
New Staysail

My goal is to really test out the service and the customer support along with the installation help. I will be leaning on Mack sails to help me where I need help and to install the Radar on the mast. I have been up there 4 times in the last year taking it down and replacing it and it is time for a pro to install my new radar. I plan to install the watermaker and network the B&G to my old B&G NMEA 183 network and autopilot RAM.

So, on first reactions, I am really impressed with Colin Mack and his endless support, emails, phone calls and fair pricing. More reporting as these jobs kick off the 1st and 2nd week of Nov.

PS:
I am NOT paid by Mack Sails and I do not receive compensation for this write up. I am doing this as a customer and IPY owner who is happy with the service. I also am impressed that Colin and Travis have NOT sold out to Mexico, China, etc offshoring like all the other big sail lofts have done. Colin and Travis are committed to keeping jobs here in Stuart Florida and building their sails in USA. I really like this dedication to America! You have to respect that! Thank YOU!

Hi Hayden,
Where are you planning to locate the Ventura 200T on Island Spirit. Once you have her installed, I would love to see your pictures of the installation and location.

Jimmy:

I plan to install the Spectra Ventura 200t as follows:

1. New 3/4 thru hull and seacock in galley floor, completed
2. Feed Pump Module and filter inside sail locker, forward edge bolted to cockpit seat ice box. There is a 7" x 15" space up under the fwd edge of the sail locker lid. This is unused space and will allow the pump to be out of the way.
3. The Clark Pump and Pressure tube assembly will go onto a newly glassed in shelf that will be against the hull up as high as possible to the deck directly outboard of the forward edge of the sail locker lid. This needs to be reachable to turn the pressure relief knob. I may need an extended tool/dowel rod w/rubber foot.
4. One extra filter may be installed before the feed pump.
5. Sea strainer will be installed in galley floor as well.
6. Brine discharge will be connected into the cockpit ice box locker (small seat locker to starboard) that already has a drain hose to the boot stripe and a seacock.
7. Supply product water will be connected into the deck fill hose with simple PVC connections and water hose connections.

This install should not take away any storage space currently in use. All the areas I am using are spaces that are not used in any way.

That is it. The Spectra Ventura 200t is manual, but can have an automated system added for $1500, nope, not doing that.

The Spectra dimensions are here:

Here is an update on working with Mack Sails on my electronics order and my refit #3 of our IP35 Island Spirit. My orders are processing and I have the B&G Zeus2 and the B&G 4G Radar and the Spectra Watermaker Ventura 200t. Colin has submitted my orders for all the new B&G Triton2 gear which is yet to be delivered by B&G because it was just released.

What I enjoy so far about working with Mack Sails is that they are so responsive and so quick to process emails and communications. I try not to bother them because I know they are so very busy and that they have many customers, but so far they are amazing. I am working with Colin on on the electronics and the new set up. I am in PA, they are in Florida and all is going well. Next week we will begin to refit Island Spirit for a third time and we are getting excited.

More reports and photos as this project moves along.

If you are shopping for new electronics then I recommend you call or email Colin at Mack Sails.
