We hired Joule Yacht Transport , out of Largo Florida to truck our IP35 back into the factory, May 2013, for a factory refit. I have seen many IPs trucked into Rock Hall, MD over the years, and it is really an interesting process. I also am learning that trucking your yacht is not too expensive, yes it is expensive, but..... Sometimes it might make sense to truck your boat to a remote location to explore a new area.

That is what we are looking into. We have sailed the East Coast Maine to Florida and the Bahamas for a few years. Next we might want to do the same on the west coast, especially the Puget Sound Area. So, with this in mind, we are starting to look into trucking prices from Maryland to Washington.

Joule Yacht Transport is the company that ships all yachts for the factory. Their trailers are made for this, and they are pros at doing this. So for me, there is no other choice, and I plan to hire Joule Yacht Transport for shipping our boat if we want to explore the west coast. I work with Dave Stratton at Joule Yacht, and you can email him for quotes for shipping your Island Packet Yacht.

Here is a quote I just received from Dave to truck a few IP models from MD to WA. This gives us a starting point to begin to think about this opportunity. Maybe we can take a fleet of IP east coast yachts to Puget Sound for a rally! That could be FUN.

to me
Hayden, here are the prices you requested for these models from Rock Hall MD to Port Townsend WA. IP35 $11,765.00 IP 380 $13,335.00 IP 40 $13,690.00.
Thank you Dave Stratton

So, it looks interesting to think about a west coast exploration. We have a fleet out there and they can show us around.

I, too, used Joule, to bring Whimsy from Seattle to Montana.

I was very displeased with their service and performance, and would not use them again. In short, they caused minor damage to Whimsy - easily repairable, and not at all structural in nature.

After a lengthy discussion with them, they agreed to share the financial pain of repairs - a paltry $175 on their part. I have not received any money from them since they agreed to do so, and they no longer answer my e-mails.

I therefore can only conclude that the company has no corporate integrity, and will not use them again. Organizations that do not do what they say they are going to do, don't deserve my business.

Thanks for the info Hayden, my wife and I are planning on moving "Gypsy 350-03" (a boat that you know - Jim/Marcy Wright) to the Bradenton area from the Midwest in the spring of 2014. I was looking for a shipping company and a marina to perform the rigging upon arrival as well.

I have contacted Joule and will visit Snead Island Boat Works in November of 2013 to check them out.

Now...which Marina to choose? Look forward to following your refit experience.

Yes, I know your boat very well, and took some great photos of it. Jim and Marcy loved that boat!

Great, I am glad you are looking into shipping with Joules, for me, I would look no well else. If it is good enough for the factory then that is all I need to hear!

Trucking into SNEAD Island Boat Works seems to make sense if you are going to the Palemtto Fl area. Snead is #1, and it is where the IPY factory launches. They are pros there. For a marina, you could stay right there at Snead, as their facilities are really nice and the bathhouse is new. Or you could move down the river a bit to Riverside Marina or Twin Dolphin Marina.

One thing for sure, you will find Island Packet Yachts in this Pallemtto River Area.
