Wine storage? Bag vs. bottles was created by hayden
What is the best way to store wine on the boat? Boxed wine or bottles? Then if you say boxed wine, do you take it out of the box and simply sore it in the bag filling your bow with 20 bags or more?

Last year, after following up on the advice of many people on the IP list, we ended up stocking great quantities of the hexagonal box wine. Can't remember the name right now. All others pale in comparison - IMHO. We store it in the boxes stacked in several lockers.
I've contacted a couple of wineries, who have products of which we are quite fond, to ask if they sell their product in bags/boxes. The marketing agent at Columbia Crest thought it was a great idea - but NO - they don't sell their wine in boxes.

Dang!

We use boxed wine aboard our Island Packet. We remove the box and store the bags in a large sealed bag.

We did it! We spent 2 months in Abacos and took black box wine and it worked well. Some we stored in box in the port settee some we stored in the bow out of the box. The bags store well packing in and around other items. We did not have any bags fail! We enjoyed the cabernet black box the best n on sale in Miami we found it for 19$ best was 16$ . Thanks for the box recommendation.

I didn't see this earlier. We carried bottles aboard Charbonneau when cruising and normally had between 15 and 30 bottles of wine. Our solution was to store them in (clean) socks (white socks for white wine, grey socks for our reds). We put them in a lower floor locker and sailed over 25,000 miles without a single spill. And as you know, Hayden, we rarely took the inside routes anywhere, so the boat took it's share of hard knocks along the way.

Box wine has come a long way since those days, but I still love a good bottle and think it's worth the effort. In our case, if the bottle ever did break - the glass was already contained in the sock.

We use bags/boxes if we can get away with it. Being in colder climates, we're not worried about the cardboard and cockroaches ;)
Champagne, however, have to be in bottles :cheer:
