Here is a helpful hint when getting water from anchor in Block Island. First, it is best to go into the dinghy dock at high tide because you want to STAY in the dinghy and reach the water hose. The next trick is to take your own hose with you about 6-10 feet long. Arrive at the inshore side of the dinghy dock, go all the way in and tie up right under the water hose. Block Island always has a short one foot hose attached to the faucet and this will not work FROM the dinghy. So, you unscrew that, put on your own hose which reaches down into the dinghy, and now you can easily full your 5 gallon water jugs without hauling them up to the dock!

One more trick I do, is to take my own splitter with on/off levers and put that on first, then put on the Block Island hose one one and mine on the other. This allows other cruisers to keep filling their jugs while up on the dock and you can be under the dock filling the many jugs you brought in.

We just got back from filling 8 five gallon jugs using this method and it is reall good, it works so well. This is my 9th summer in Block Island and we live on anchor so this water process is part of block life for us.

Hayden, on Block, on anchor and loving it
