Chain/Rode washdown was created by mcduck52
My current system for washing down the rode doesn't work. Just a hose run through the forward head port attached to the sink fixture. Not enough flow and a waste of fresh water. Does anyone have a better setup for using salt water to rinse the mud off before the chain gets to the bow pulpit?

Charlie:
We use a wash down pump, of which there are many. Our is,

If I were doing this again, I would get a stronger, or more GPM rated one. This may sound like a lot at 4 GPM, bbut in wind, the water pressure is overcome by the wind and you cant spray upwind to the anchor chain.

Our pump is mounted in the cabin sole hole near the mast. The pick up water comes from a T-off into our Air Conditioning thru haul. The hose then runs under the v berth to the bow, where it comes up to a hose fitting. This is the common solution.

Thanks Hayden, I checked and Jabsco makes a 7 GPM @ 70 PSI which should help to overcome the "spray into the wind" problem. I'll let you know how it works out.

Great, I would go with that, as it really is a challenge in any wind to spary upwind. When there is no wind it is easy, anything will work. But in a wind, that is when you really want to clean the chain FAST and get that anchor onto the bow!

Several years ago we were just putting chain in 5 gal bucket of sea water as it came onboard (mud everywhere). We went with the Jabsco 7gpm placed near the mast. Water source was thru hull for sink drain with a t added on. What a difference.
