I wrote that. Bottom line, the IP 38 I would place in the version 1 to version 2 hull design. The 26 was first that turned into the 27. These hulls were wide in the stern, the 26 27 31. Then the 38 hull came out and it too was wide in the stern giving you lots of room in the aft bunk and lots of room in the cockpit sail locker. Then the 32 35 hulls came out the stern was lifted and made a bit more trim. Then the 380 etc came out and the sugar scoop was added to really life the fat stern of all IPs even more out of the water. These sugar scopps are really not for the platform but rather a way to make the stern water flow off better.
So the IP 38 fits in right after the 27 31 and before the 35 37.
I will say, I have sailed many months with a 38 on our 35 and they sail very well offshore I would have no worries there. Now, jut do not try to sail with the 380 or the 40 as they will leave us fast.
