Washington DC, dockage vs. anchorage was created by hayden
Has anyone anchored off Washington DC? We are looking at going there this summer 2010, and wanted to compare anchorage VS. dockage.

In understand there is the Gangplank marina and the Capital Yacht Club marina. Has anyone stayed there? Any info on Washington DC would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will probably not have any luck getting even a transient slip at either of the Marinas but you can anchor in the basin just adjacent to Gangplank Marina.

Thank you Bobby. I think Jeff stayed here last year at the Gangplank. I will look into anchoring off as well. Washington DC could be a "fun" destination. Of course it is not BLOCK ISLAND but hey, there can only be one of those.

Assuming your are speaking of the Potomac River are, I am not aware of any anchorage area right in downtown DC. A Marina is the way to go. I am not familiar with the marina situation, but, I would pick the one with the best security and most convenient to the area of DC you intend to go to.

Thank you Les, at this point, we are not sure if we will make DC as we may spend the summer in and around RH MD. Family and friends sailing summer is the plan as we re-discover the Bay. Of course we will return to our favorite spot next summer....BLOCK ISLAND, RI

The anchorage is the Basin immediately adjacent to Gangplank Marina. You can tie your dinghy up there and it is not to far to the Metro.
