I am in the process of relocation Odyssey, my IP 37, to her (and my) new home on Annapolis, MD.
Leg one (Gulfport, FL to Stuart, FL) using the Okeechobee waterway was done already 3 weeks ago. We just touched the tip of the VHF antenna at the RR bridge East of the lake. Odyssey's mast height is 49.5' (+ antenna) and the lake level was 11.5'. It is my understanding the RR bridge has a 48' clearance at a 14' lake level.
Leg two was competed a week ago (April 30th to May 3rd)with a sleigh ride to the Beaufort, NC inlet. While I opted for a straight rhumbline from Ft. Pierce to Beaufort, I should have stayed a little bit closer to the coast. We overshot the Gulfstream center to the East and had to work our way back into the stream, loosing some of the ~ 2 kt advantage. But it was a thrilling ride and the fastest Odyssey has ever sailed (10.1kt over ground while sailing downwind wing on wing with the genoa poled out).
Odyssey is now at the Oriental Harbor Village Marina waiting for the 3rd and last leg to Annapolis going the ICW through the Virginia cut around the end of May.
I am looking forward to some exploring of the Chesapeake during the next 2 years of my work related stay in Annapolis, MD.
