SP Cruiser was created by Menapia
Hi,

I'm new to sailing and am considering buying an SP Cruiser. I own a Beneteau Swift Trawler now. Any advise on the SP, IP in general or my plans would be very welcome please. How difficult would it be for me to learn to sail the SP? Should I do it? I'm based in Ireland. Thank you.

The SP is a most comfortable live-aboard vessel and very easy to sail, motor, or motor-sail. Not much to "learn" , she will literally "sail herself". And if equipped with the "stow away" winches sail deployment/retrieval and trimming is push button. At age 65, I appreciate that. My wife and I spent two winters going from Rhode Island to Florid/Bahamas and back. I often singlehand sail her as well.

Are you looking to base the boat in the USA or in Ireland ?

That's encouraging, thank you. My plan is to base the boat in Southern Ireland, on the South East coast.

Carey,

Thank you for your recent note. I've since bought the SP Cruiser. Its still in the UK, with my plan to get it home to Ireland around Easter. One of the things I'm thinking about is how best to handle my dinghy. From on-line photos of Catspaw you have a good looking davit set-up. Was this a factory option or did you fit it as an after market item, please? Does it work well, would you recommend the product? Thx, Dave

Dave,

The davits are wonderful.  They were a custom-built set , that I designed with Mystic Stainless Steel in Stonington, Connecticut.  They are rock solid and designed with a pin on each side which, when removed, allows them to rotate forward if you wish to use the stern platform for boarding when tied up to floating docks.

I could probably send a few images of fasten points etc. if you would like. Just email me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
