No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationAfter some research, I found out that you can buy GMS unlocked Quadband Phones direct out of the far east along with tons of other places as well. Buying one of these phones will allow you to use a SIM CARD for the country you are going to. For example, Italy or the Bahamas, etc.

For $279 I bought my exact same phone, (Samsung Nexus) but this one is unlocked and it is GSM quadband. My phone Nexus phone was modified by Verizon to not allow unlocking plus it is not GSM, or quadband. So it is only good as a Verizon phone only! DUH. If you are looking for a GSM world phone, you can see mine here:

Samsung Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 - 16GB - (Unlocked) Smartphone

Once you have a GSM, unlocked phone you can then order your SIM CARD here:

www.mrsimcard.com/

There you can buy a Bahamas BTC, or UK chip, or Italy chip. You insert this into your unlocked GSM phone and when you turn it on in the country for the chip, you phone will try to register on that network. You usually have to text an activation text message to the carrier and then the chip/phone goes live in that country.

At least that is what I have leaned so far.

There is also a company call Telestial that sells unlocked phones and SIM Cards. My phone is UK based and all that I have to do is add prepaid minutes. One warning though - don't call a US Cell Phone or that Cell phone will wind up with a huge bill. This is the US phone company that is doing it. I have used it for years and it works very well. Skype is still a very good method too...

Hayden. Are you going to put your Verizon SIM card in this new phone? Can you do that and keep your current contract running?

Jerry:
My Verzion cell does not have a SIM card. When I bought my Google Nexus 18 months ago, Verizon did not have GSM phones. Now, with GSM phone so popular, and the fact that the rest of the worls uses GSM and SIM CARDS, I think they now sell GSM phones which also have their CDMA in as well.

So, I bought this GSM Galaxy for use in Italy and in the Bahamas. It is not 4G/LTE it is GMS and 3G.

If you have a GSM and CDMA Verizon phone, then you could add a SIM and keep your Verizon running. When out of the country, I suspend my Verizon service and the fees stop until I return. You can suspend Verizon for 90 days.

Thanks Hayden. I've got about 4 more months on my current contract. I'll have to get one of these local/global phones when I upgrade. Will have to figure out whether to buy through Verizon or get an unlocked phone on line and avoid another 2 year contract requirement.

UPDATE on my GSM unlocked phone:

It arrived, I have received this Google Nexus GT phone direct from Korea. I ended up getting concerned that it would not arrive in time for our trip.....so.....I bought another one direct from www.google.com/nexus/4/
I now have two! That should cover it.

I plan to resell the one, and I will use the latest one from Google.

Next I shipped in an unlimited GSM Data chip for Italy from:
www.cellularabroad.com/DataSIMitaly.php

This will give us a phone number and data connectivity while in Italy. Yes, I would have bought all this over there in Italy, but now I have it and I can add the apps I want and set up the android phone here in the US on my wifi before travel.

So, far, this really seems like it is going to work. Then next year, I can also use this GSM phone in the Bahamas.

Google Nexus 4
