West Bay, New Providence, Bahamas is a good location to wait out a NNE- to SSE blow. The harbor could easily hold 50 boats on anchor. The bay is wide open to the west and easy to enter. You can run up to the 7-10 foot water and anchor on a clean sandy patch. The guides report that the NE corner has the best holding. We have been in three places now as we have moved around getting closer to the beach.

The entire cove is private, except for the once SE corner where there is a park and a nice beach. You can land the dinghy on the beach or drop a stern anchor and bow anchor and let it ride just off the surf line.

There is no easy way to get to Nassau, and we have not tried to get there, as we had no plans to go there. We had planned to only stay here one day, but the E NE winds have held us here. Our next stop is Highborne Cay and then on south.

One NOTE: Our Raymarine/C-MAP NT charts show this entrance as all closed off with a reef, and 2-4 feet deep. Our Navionics shows the bay as wide open with 8-10 feet all across the entrance. Jeff's Garmin Blue Charts on his iPad also showed this bay as weide open. I am not sure why it is not with C-map NT.

So it is good to have a tablet for a back up nav system and to compare.

Here is a Google Map of the Bay

Jeff:
We are trying to deliver Jeff from Miami to George Town by the 17th. Looks like we will make it, and now we really need to get there as the winds and wx are building by SUN. So, we will press on Wed, Highborne. Thur Wardwick Wells, Fri Black Point, and Sat out the cut and put the hammer down for George Town.
