'Nomad' enroute to Bahamas was created by raceboat61-S
After our 2011 plans to sail to the Abaco's failed to materialize when we reached Key West, we are underway once again. We left the Tampa area on 1 December headed for Key West or Marathon on the first stage of our trip. Our plan is to get to our jumping off point in the keys sometime this week. We'll fly home to Ohio for the Holidays and return to the boat after Christmas. We hope to find others leaving at the same time. I have it in my mind that we may venture across the Gulf Stream from Marathon then "slingshot" along the Stream to arrive at Cat, Gun or Bimini conditions permitting. The other alternative is to try the more traditional route directly from Biscane Bay/Miami.
Tonight we are at anchor in Pelican Bay adjacent to the Cayo Costa State Park just south of Boca Grande, FL. Tomorrow we'll head to either Estero or all the way to Naples. Forecast is for East winds 10-15 it's so Naples is just less than 9 hours South.

Mike and Carol. We may bump into you as we are nearing Miami then Marathon by Dec 14. We plan an Exams run in Feb from Miami then down to Georgetown and Long Island and then back up to the Abacos.
Keep US posted. Thanks.

We made it easily to Naples today. Great sailing early then motor-sailed from noon on because we needed to average 6knots to get here before sunset. Tomorrow we'll go to Little Shark River and may stay an extra day to "dink" around among the Cyprus and Manatees. We have reserved a slip at Boca Chica Marina on the Naval Air Base for the time we'll be gone for the Holidays. As retired military this is a great perk! Only one $dollar/foot/day.
